Canonical, the company behind Ubuntu, is hiring 2025 & 2026 Graduate Software Engineers to join our globally distributed engineering teams. As a pioneer in open-source innovation, Canonical powers enterprise AI, cloud, IoT, data science, engineering, and next-gen infrastructure across 75+ countries.
About the Role
As a Graduate Software Engineer, you’ll contribute to open-source products and enterprise-grade systems used by millions worldwide. From low-level Linux development to cloud, security, containers, and compilers, you’ll work across a diverse technology stack—including Python, Golang, Rust, C/C++, JavaScript, and more.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop high-quality, resilient, and performant software for global users
- Contribute to Ubuntu and the broader open-source ecosystem
- Collaborate in remote engineering teams across time zones (EMEA/APAC/AMER)
- Participate in biannual global engineering sprints
- Work on Linux internals, toolchains, packaging, cloud systems, and device-level development
- Address customer issues and define product roadmaps
- Engage with open-source communities via code reviews and issue trackers
- Build secure, scalable, and enterprise-ready software
What You Bring
- Outstanding academic track record (high school + university)
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Business Informatics, or STEM
- Proficiency in at least one: Python, Rust, C/C++, Golang, JavaScript, Java
- Experience with Ubuntu or Linux
- Strong problem-solving skills, curiosity, and accountability
- Personal tech projects or open-source contributions
- Excellent communication skills in English
- Ability to travel internationally twice a year
Nice to Have
- Open-source or Linux distribution contributions
- Leadership or presentation experience
- Interest in product, business, and technology strategy
